How does a composting toilet work?
The composting toilet offers you complete independence and sustainability. Urine and solids are separated, with the solids collected in a special container and dried using coconut fibers. This keeps everything odor-free. You can use the toilet 20-25 times before it needs emptying – all without needing a disposal station. The system works completely without chemicals and offers you a sustainable, environmentally friendly solution for when you're on the go.
Camping made easy with the right toilet for your motorhome.
Thanks to its high-quality stainless steel construction, robust workmanship, and compact dimensions, our compostable toilet integrates seamlessly into modern campervans. It not only offers maximum independence but also allows you to be truly self-sufficient – without constant stops at disposal stations and with the peace of mind that comes with traveling in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.
The RL composting toilet thus enables you to achieve true independence.
The BioTioo RL is a modern version offering maximum independence. The large 10-liter urine tank features an odor trap and can be easily removed. Solid waste enters the solids container, where it is dried by the agitator and plant fibers, beginning the pre-composting process. An optional fan accelerates the drying process by venting moisture to the outside.
Composting toilet experiences: Why it's also ideal for women
Which type of litter is suitable for a composting toilet?
Coconut fibers are ideal for composting toilets: they absorb liquid exceptionally well and prevent odors. Whether pressed bricks or the practical FiberPack – both options ensure simple and sustainable use. After 20 to 30 uses, you can hygienically dispose of the dry contents in compostable kraft paper bags – clean, environmentally friendly, and hassle-free.
Steps for easy disposal of your composting toilet:
If the agitator is completely covered, you should slowly start taking care of disposal.
- Open the housing of the composting toilet and remove the urine tank.
- Remove the odor trap and empty the urine into a normal toilet.
- Replace the odor trap and close the tank.
- Remove the solids container and tap the pre-composted solids into a compostable paper bag.
- Seal the bag and dispose of it in the general waste or on the compost heap.
- Place the solids container back into the composting toilet without rinsing it.
Cleaning & maintenance of the composting toilet
You don't need to wash out the solids container of your composting toilet, as the remaining bacteria will aid the composting process. You can simply clean the urine tank occasionally by leaving it overnight with a slice of lemon – this neutralizes odors and keeps it fresh.

What is the purpose of the fan in the composting toilet?
What is the purpose of the fan in the composting toilet?
The fan in a composting toilet serves an important function: it ensures that moisture is quickly removed from the solids container. This is particularly important because drying the solids prevents odors and optimally supports the composting process. The fan thus accelerates drying, prevents condensation, and reduces the volume of the solids, allowing for longer emptying intervals.
In short: The fan helps to keep the composting toilet odor-free and efficient, especially with frequent use or under changing temperature conditions.
Can I continue to use my existing fan?
Can I continue to use my existing fan?
Our fan differs from conventional fans, which are often loud and draw in a lot of air. These fans were designed to prevent odors. Since odors aren't a problem in a composting toilet anyway, due to the separation of urine and solids and the mixing in of plant fibers, our fan has a different purpose: It primarily ensures effective drying of the solids.
The fan runs exceptionally quietly and consumes only 1 watt per hour on a 12-volt connection, making it very energy efficient. You can run it continuously, intermittently, or switch it off as needed. For optimal performance, the fan should be suspended freely, and the length of the fan hose should not exceed 2 meters to ensure smooth operation and prevent additional noise from vibrations.
This fan not only dries your composting toilet efficiently, but also remains particularly quiet and energy-efficient.
Can I dispose of toilet paper in a composting toilet?
Can I dispose of toilet paper in a composting toilet?
Yes, you can throw regular toilet paper into the composting toilet, just like you would at home. The agitator mixes the paper well with the solids and plant fibers, so it gets finely shredded. It won't compost completely in such a short time, and the paper scraps will still be slightly visible, but that's perfectly fine.
You shouldn't put wet wipes in the composting toilet, as they don't decompose and can disrupt the composting process. If you throw toilet paper into the solids bin, just keep in mind that it will fill up a bit faster. However, with normal use, the bin usually holds about 25 uses before it needs emptying. Alternatively, you can dispose of the toilet paper separately if you want to extend the intervals between uses.
Can I retrofit the BioTioo system in my motorhome?

Where should the contents of a composting toilet be disposed of?
Where should the contents of a composting toilet be disposed of?
Depending on usage and personal preference, the contents of a composting toilet can be disposed of in two simple ways:
1. Composting for sustainable use
- The solids can be disposed of on a compost heap or in a rapid composter.
- There they dry out further and after some time transform into nutrient-rich humus.
- After approximately 24 months, the soil is suitable for fertilizing ornamental plants, trees and shrubs.
2. Easy disposal without composting
- If composting is not possible, the solids can be collected in compostable paper bags.
- These can be disposed of hygienically and without odor in the residual waste or in the organic waste bin.
- Toilet paper can be disposed of without hesitation, as the BioTioo does not require separate separation.
3. Urination – quick and easy
- The separate urine container can be disposed of at a sanitary station, via a normal drain or – depending on the location – diluted as plant fertilizer.
- The mechanical odor seal keeps the process clean and comfortable.

Why buying a composting toilet is a sustainable decision
Buying a composting toilet is the ideal choice if environmental awareness and sustainability are important to you. Whether you use it in a camper van, boat , or garden – buying a composting toilet means choosing an environmentally friendly alternative that doesn't require water.
Our composting toilets rely on a natural ecosystem: After purchasing a composting toilet, you only need to use plant fibers instead of chemicals. The fiber box is ideal for this. The fibers are made from recycled coconuts and are a purely natural product. They effectively absorb moisture and support natural composting. When you buy a composting toilet , you're not only investing in your independence, but also in an environmentally friendly solution without artificial additives.
Disposing of a composting toilet in a motorhome is this easy.
With a composting toilet for your campervan, waste disposal is incredibly easy and stress-free – ideal for families on the road. You can conveniently empty the urine tank, such as the BioTioo 2.0 , directly into the toilet at a motorway service station. A little insider tip: Place a small plastic bag inside the housing under the solids container of the camping composting toilet to transport the urine tank discreetly.
The solid waste container is also easy to use. Its contents can be disposed of with regular household waste – whether at a campsite or directly at a rest stop. With your motorhome, you are no longer dependent on special disposal stations and can travel flexibly at any time.
