Sustainable, waterless, independent
Most onboard or boat toilets are often associated with unnecessary stress – be it through constant maintenance, high water consumption, or the search for disposal stations. However, these problems are a thing of the past! With the new composting toilet, you have an environmentally friendly alternative that works entirely without water or disposal stations. It's the ideal solution for anyone who wants to travel independently and sustainably.
Whether you are looking for a reliable onboard toilet for longer trips or a practical toilet for your boat – our composting toilet offers you comfort and independence on the water.

Blockages in onboard toilets are a thing of the past.
A common problem with conventional marine toilets is that they clog quickly – an annoying issue no one wants to experience on a boat. This is precisely where our innovative solution comes in: the composting toilet revolutionizes the way you use a marine toilet. No water, no chemicals.
Instead of relying on complex technology or environmentally harmful substances, our yacht toilet uses an intelligent separation system that prevents odors and blockages from the outset. This means more freedom and less stress, whether you're spending extended periods on the water or just taking short trips.

This is how the toilet works on the boat
Our composting toilet uses a sophisticated separation system that allows you complete self-sufficiency on the water. Unlike conventional onboard toilets, urine and solids are collected separately. This prevents unpleasant odors and means you only need to empty your toilet after 20-25 uses.
While electric marine toilets often require noisy pumps, our toilet remains almost silent and optionally operates with only a very quiet fan. This gives you complete independence, saves resources, and allows for long emptying intervals – perfect for carefree cruising on your boat.

Using our boat toilet is that easy.
- Step 1: Easy installation – Quick and uncomplicated without special tools.
- Step 2: Easy handling – operate the agitator to mix the solids with the plant fibers.
- Step 3: Long emptying intervals – Empty the container after 20-25 uses.
- Step 4: Maintenance-free – No time-consuming cleaning required.
- Step 5: Easy disposal – simply knock solids into the residual waste bin.

How do I empty my toilet on the boat?
After 20-25 uses, the solids are completely dry, allowing you to easily empty the container on board without the contents becoming soggy or unpleasant. Emptying is simple: just remove the container and tap the dry waste into the general waste bin or, for longer stays, into a suitable collection container. An added benefit on board: you don't need to clean the container, as the remaining bacteria inside act as a compost starter and minimize odors.
What should I do if the urine tank of my onboard toilet is full?
The urine tank of our composting toilet holds 10 liters and can be easily emptied into any conventional toilet. If no toilet is available, the urine contains no chemicals and consists mainly of water. Experts agree that this is unproblematic, as urine in freely circulating water has no harmful effects – especially since it is environmentally friendly. This makes our onboard toilet an environmentally conscious choice for boaters.

Odor-free at sea – The boat toilet that really works
Thanks to the use of plant fibers, our boat toilet ensures that there are no unpleasant odors in the solids compartment. The plant fibers absorb the moisture from the solids and allow them to dry quickly. This keeps everything odor-neutral, so you won't have any problems with unpleasant smells on your boat.
The urine tank also remains odor-free, as the urine is collected in a separate, sealed container. The special seal prevents odors from escaping, even in warm temperatures. This ensures your onboard toilet always remains odor-neutral.

Which toilet for the boat? Basic or composting?
For boats, we clearly recommend the composting toilet with an agitator. The longer emptying cycles are ideal, especially on the water, as you only need to empty the solids container after 20-25 uses. In contrast, the bag toilet would need to be emptied approximately every 3 days, which is often impractical on boats. Therefore, the composting toilet is the best option for a boat or marine toilet, allowing you to travel carefree and independently.

How does a composting toilet work?
How does a composting toilet work?
A composting toilet uses a clever separation system to collect urine and solids separately. This prevents unpleasant odors and makes disposal much easier. If you'd like to know more about how this system works, you can find all the details on our explanation page.
How do I flush a composting toilet on a boat?
How do I flush a composting toilet on a boat?
A composting toilet on a boat doesn't have a conventional flush like a regular toilet. Instead, you use a spray bottle to clean the bowl after each use. Simply spray it briefly with water – you can also add citric acid or vinegar to the water to prevent limescale buildup. One bottle is usually enough for several uses and keeps the bowl clean.
How much power does the onboard fan consume?
How much power does the onboard fan consume?
The fan in our composting toilet consumes only 1 watt per hour, making it exceptionally energy-efficient. It runs on a 12-volt connection and can be operated continuously or intermittently as needed. Even when the fan is running continuously, power consumption remains extremely low – ideal for boats where energy is often limited.
What are the differences between Basic and Compost?
What are the differences between Basic and Compost?
For boat trips, BioTioo offers two versions to enhance onboard comfort: the Basic and the Compost version. The Basic version is simple and practical – after each use, a small amount of litter is sprinkled onto the solid waste to prevent odors. This version is well-suited for shorter trips or when more frequent emptying is acceptable.
The composting version offers greater self-sufficiency and convenience, as the solids are mixed with plant fibers by an agitator. This allows them to dry faster, initiates pre-composting, and results in longer emptying intervals – ideal for extended boat trips. The small fan assists the drying process and vents moisture to the outside, ensuring the toilet remains completely odor-free.
The major advantage of the composting system is that even with short toilet usage, the solids can remain in the container without needing to be emptied each time. The special agitator mixes the waste with the plant fibers, allowing it to dry quickly and remain odor-free. The container only needs to be emptied when it is full.
