Sustainable, waterless, independent
Most onboard toilets or boat toilets are often associated with unnecessary hassle – whether due to constant upkeep, high water use, or the search for disposal points. However, these problems are a thing of the past! With the new composting toilet, you have an eco-friendly alternative that works entirely without water and disposal points. It is the ideal solution for anyone who wants to travel independently and sustainably.
Whether you are looking for a reliable onboard toilet for longer journeys or a practical toilet for your boat – our composting toilet offers you comfort and independence on the water.

Blockages in an onboard toilet are a thing of the past
A common problem with traditional onboard toilets is quick clogging – an annoying issue that no one wants to experience on a boat. This is exactly where our innovative solution comes in: The composting toilet revolutionizes the way you can use a boat toilet. Without water, without chemicals.
Instead of relying on complex technology or environmentally harmful substances, our yacht toilet works with an intelligent separation system that prevents odors and blockages from the start. This means more freedom and less stress, whether you spend a longer time on the water or are just out for short trips.

This is how the toilet works on the boat
Our composting toilet works through a clever separation system that allows you full self-sufficiency on the water. Unlike conventional onboard toilets, urine and solid waste are collected separately here. This prevents unpleasant odors and ensures that you only need to empty your toilet on board after 20-25 uses.
While electric marine toilets often require loud pumps, our toilet remains almost silent and optionally operates only with a very quiet fan. This way, you are completely independent, save resources, and enjoy long emptying intervals – perfect for carefree travel with your boat.

Using our boat toilet is that simple
- Step 1: Simple installation – quick and straightforward without special tools.
- Step 2: Easy handling – operate the stirrer to mix the solids with the plant fibres.
- Step 3: Long emptying intervals – empty the container after 20-25 uses.
- Step 4: Maintenance-free – no elaborate cleaning needed.
- Step 5: Easy disposal – simply knock the solids into the residual waste.

How do I dispose of my toilet waste on the boat?
After 20-25 uses, the solids are completely dried, so you can easily empty the container on board without the contents being mushy or unpleasant. Emptying is simple: just remove the container and tap the dry waste into the residual waste bin or, during longer stays, into a suitable collection container. An additional advantage on board: you do not need to clean the container, as the remaining bacteria in the empty container act as a compost starter and reduce odours.
What to do when the urine tank of my onboard toilet is full?
The urine tank of our composting toilet holds 10 litres and can be easily emptied into any conventional toilet. If no toilet is available, the urine contains no chemicals and consists mainly of water. Experts agree that this is unproblematic, as urine in freely circulating water has no harmful effects – especially since it is environmentally friendly. This makes our onboard toilet an eco-conscious choice for boaters.

Odorless at sea – The boat toilet that truly works
By using plant fibers, our boat toilet ensures that there is no unpleasant smell in the solid waste area. The plant fibers absorb the moisture from the solids and help them dry quickly. This keeps everything odor-neutral, and you won’t have any trouble with bothersome smells on your boat.
The urine tank also remains odor-free, as the urine is collected in a separate, sealed container. The special closure prevents odors from escaping, even in warm temperatures. This way, your toilet on board always stays odor-neutral.

Which toilet for the boat? Basic or compost
For boats, we clearly recommend the composting version with a stirring mechanism. The longer emptying intervals are especially ideal on the water, as you only need to empty the solid waste container after 20-25 uses. In contrast, the bag version would need to be emptied about every 3 days, which is often impractical on boats. Therefore, the composting toilet is the best option for an onboard toilet or marine toilet to be carefree and independent while on the move.

How does a dry toilet work?
How does a dry toilet work?
A dry toilet works with a clever separation system, where urine and solid matter are collected separately. This prevents unpleasant smells and makes disposal much easier. If you want to know more precisely how this system works, you can find all the details on our explanation page.
How do I flush a composting toilet on the boat?
How do I flush a composting toilet on the boat?
With a composting toilet on the boat, there is no conventional flushing like with regular toilets. Instead, you use a spray bottle to clean the urine bowl after a small visit. Simply spray briefly with water – you can also add citric acid or vinegar essence to the water to prevent lime deposits. One bottle usually suffices for several uses and ensures the bowl stays clean.
How much electricity does the fan on board use?
How much electricity does the fan on board use?
The fan of our composting toilet uses only 1 watt per hour, making it especially energy-saving. It runs on a 12-volt connection and can be operated continuously or at intervals as needed. Even when the fan runs continuously, the power consumption remains extremely low – ideal for boats, where energy is often limited.
What are the differences between Basic and Compost?
What are the differences between Basic and Compost?
For boat trips, BioTioo offers two options that increase comfort on board: the Basic and the Compost versions. The Basic version is simple and practical – after each use, a small amount of litter is sprinkled over the solid waste to prevent odors. This version is well suited for shorter trips or when the emptying interval can be shorter.
The Compost version offers more self-sufficiency and comfort, as the solids are mixed with plant fibres by a stirring mechanism. This causes them to dry faster, a preliminary composting begins, and longer emptying intervals result – ideal for longer boat journeys. The small fan supports the drying process and directs moisture outside, so the toilet remains completely odour-free.
The great advantage of the Compost version: even if the toilet is used only briefly, the solids can remain in the container without needing to be emptied each time. Thanks to the special stirring mechanism, the waste mixes with the plant fibres, dries quickly, and stays odour-free. The container only needs to be emptied when it is full.
